PINEHURST, N.C. — Sepp Straka made a hole-in-one at Pinehurst No. 2 throughout Friday’s second spherical of the U.S. Open, six holes after he hit the flagstick on his option to a triple bogey.
Straka aced the 194-yard ninth gap, with the ball touchdown on the entrance portion of the inexperienced and rolling about 30 toes into the cup. It was the primary ace on the PGA Tour for Straka, who raised his arms in jubilation.
On the quick par-4 third gap, Straka’s method from 139 yards banged into the flagstick, with the ball rolling again off the inexperienced and right into a bunker.
From there, his shot went too far and rolled off the again proper facet, a tough stretch that in the end resulted in a triple-bogey 7.
Straka, who was born in Austria and represented Europe in final 12 months’s Ryder Cup, shot an even-par 70 in Thursday’s first spherical.
